Mailly 2016

Mailly-le-Camp  (July 12, 2016)

Disbanded in 2003, the 5th Dragoon Regiment is once again operational.
As part of the new military strategies, this regiment is assigned to Mailly-le-Camp. This step is one of the first in a deployment plan that should allow for the installation of 1,300 to 1,400 soldiers in Mailly-le-Camp by 2018.
Our two mounted dragoons brought a historical note to the Regimental Re-enactment; they accompanied the 23rd Dragoon Regiment (re-enactment group – distinctive daffodil color).
Dragons from the past surround an officer from the present. Two centuries apart!

Under the Empire, the uniform of the 5th Dragoons was almost the same as that of the 2nd: the (simulated) pockets were sewn vertically instead of horizontally for the 2nd. More information on the uniforms .

Many thanks to the photographers.
