Promotion to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. (07/2014)
During the move to the town of Wavre, our Regiment had the honor of serving as an escort for Marshal Masséna. He could not fail to note once again the qualities of our Sergeant “Laplume” to whom the Captain had entrusted command of the escort.
Marshal Masséna insisted that he be given a rank more in keeping with his merits. Sergeant Laplume is indeed one of the oldest reenactors: Enlisted in 1985 in the 1st Regiment of Foot Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard, he joined the 2nd Regiment of Dragoons in 1995. In addition, for several years now, he has been entrusted with command of the squad.
The ceremony took place in accordance with protocol:
Marshal Masséna, accompanied by his aides-de-camp, presented himself at the bivouac.
The mounted regiment assembles before the Marshal.
The trumpet player gives the honors.
Marshal Masséna called Sergeant Laplume.
Marshal Masséna summons the Captain: While recalling the MDL’s service record, he asks him to promote him to the rank of MDL Chief
Happy to pay tribute to the qualities of the MDL, the Captain immediately appointed him “Chief Warrant Officer”
His Excellency congratulates the Chief Warrant Officer on his appointment.
His Excellency invites the Rgt as well as the canteen workers to celebrate the appointment.
The Emperor nicknamed Marshal Masséna “The darling of victory.”
Has he become the darling of our canteen ladies?
